UNDERDOG EGS Elite held steadier down the stretch to stun Blackwater Sports, 21-18, and clinch the men’s Open division crown in the NBA3X Philippines 2013 presented by Sprite over the weekend at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Tent.

With NBA stars James Harden and Eric Gordon watching at the stands, EGS, composed of former NCAA players Rocky Acidre, Mark Doligon and Acidre’s younger brother Rutger, used its tough defense in the final minute to overcame the Elite, who were bannered by Gio Ciriacruz, Robby Celiz, Bacon Austria and Louie Vigil.

The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, behind Allana Lim, Soc Borja, Karen Columna and Mary Angeli Cabochan, prevailed over Team Mickey, which made up mostly of former University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, in a low-scoring duel, 8-4, to seize the women’s Open tiara.

In other divisions, AMA JRS, starring Clark Quijano, Jayson David, Russel Fuentes and Michael Perez dominated CKSC Blazing Dragons, 20-7, to take home the men’s Under-18 division crown, while the National University Lady Bulldogs quartet of Nica Villegas, Jack Danielle Animam, Ana Del Rosario and Kimberly Illut ruled the women’s Under-18 side without a sweat after the JASMS Patriots failed to show up in the championship match.

University of St. La Salle standouts Jan Gabriel Sobrevega, Peter John Rabor and Astrolave Vista dominated  the men’s Under-16 division, while Team CAYS, composed of Alexis Aguirre, Leezah Sorallo, Mae Ann Herradura and Jeivie Nama, ruled the distaff side.

The boys Under-13 title went to Escuela de Sophia-1, with Saymond Male, Andrei Cariato, Nelle Suminig and Christopher Perio leading the way.

Team Alcaraz, which is made up of GMA talents Marco Alcaraz, Ervic Vijandre, Jose Sarasola and Jack Corpuz, ruled the Celebrity division.

The NBA 3X Philippines event was also highlighted by an NBA Cares activity for Special Olympic Athletes, while Harden and Gordon had a meet and greet session with the Jr. NBA All Stars Alumni who dropped by.
